Apply online to perform computational analysis on Find Case Law records.

Important: You cannot save your application partway through. You will need to complete your application in one session.

Make sure you have all the information you need before you begin. See What you need to apply for a licence for details of the 29 questions we'll ask across 6 sections.

You do not need to apply for a licence if your re-use is already covered under the Open Justice Licence.

The Open Justice Licence covers most uses, including commercial use. You only need to apply if you want to perform computational analysis.

What to expect

  • 29 questions across 6 sections
  • you must complete the application in one session
  • some of your responses may be published in the future
  • it may take a few weeks until you receive a decision

The 6 sections

  1. Contact details – The person responsible for the licence
  2. Organisation details – Legal name and organisation type
  3. Purpose and activities – What you intend to do (150 words)
  4. Public statement – Summary for potential publication (150 words)
  5. Working practices – Your methodology and ethical governance
  6. Nine principles – Risk assessment against Ministry of Justice principles

Apply for a licence

After you apply

  • you will receive confirmation that we have received your application
  • your application will be assessed by the licence team
  • it will be reviewed by Discovery Board (meets monthly)
  • you'll be updated on the status of your application
  • it may be a few weeks until you receive a decision
